Sabena's fate is uncertain

More uncertainty on Wednesday surrounded the fate of Sabena, Belgium’s troubled flagship airline, as the government tried to play down news reports that a move to file for bankruptcy could soon be made.

Since Sabena is under Chapter 11 style protection from its creditors, such an initiative could come from one of several parties.

The government, which owns 50.5 per cent in the lossmaking airline, indicated it was not considering a bankruptcy filing in the next few days.

Poste Italiane on target to hit profit in 2002

Post Italiane is on course to break even in 2002 vowed its managing director after its operating losses for the first half of 2001 showed they were down some 72 per cent on the same period last year.
The post reported net operating losses of Euro44 million in the first half of 2001, 72 per cent less compared to the same period of 2000.
“With an improvment of Euro 124 million compared to the same period for 2000, the net operating profit of Euro 115 million is a substantial step towards overall economic stability,” said the company report.

‘Early Post has nothing to do with abusing our monopoly but everything with making our services more efficient’, says Frans Rombouts, CEO of Belgian postal company Belgian Post Group (BPG). Early Post guarantees a post delivery before 9 a.m. from 1 November onwards but the service costs 60 euros a month.
