Swiss MailSource Expands in France, Buys EPS Internal Postal Business

Swiss mailroom management solutions provider MailSource, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, founded internal postal services company MailSource France SAS on July 1, 2006, as part of its expansion in France.

The new company has acquired the customers and staff of Paris-based Euro Postal Services SARL (EPS) with immediate effect for a six-digit sum in euro, Swiss Post said in a press release on July 5, 2006.

MailSource France SAS is expected to generate an annual turnover of around 600,000 euro ($766,000) with the prospect of significantly increasing revenue, profit and number of employees over the next few years.

TNT plans B2C services in European markets

TNT plans to launch parcel services for consumers in several European markets later this year, according to a report in German newspaper Die Welt. “We will announce our strategy for parcel services in the third quarter,” the newspaper quoted TNT CEO Peter Bakker as saying. The aim was to benefit from growing home delivery parcel volumes generated by e-commerce sales, and to use available capacity in its express and postal networks. “We can imagine a launch in France, Great Britain and the Benelux states,” TNT board member Harry Koorstra said. But instead of offering a next-day delivery service, TNT might opt for a slower delivery, he said. Koorstra declined to say whether TNT might also enter the German B2C parcels market.

French deliver E18m for new Interlink facility

La Poste France, the French post office, is investing E18m to build a distribution hub for Interlink, an Irish company that is owned by the French operator. The firm aims to fill the void created by the closure last year of An Post’s loss-making SDS parcel-delivery service.

The 70,000-sq-ft sorting facility near Athlone, will double the delivery capacity for Interlink, which expects to generate revenues of E40m this year and make more than 15m drops.

FedEx chooses Geodis to perform pick up an delivery operations in France

As of January 1st, 2007, FedEx and Geodis will enter an operational agreement until 2010

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, and Geodis, one of the leading companies of logistics services in Europe, signed an operational agreement for a 3 year period.

“Through this agreement Fedex acknowledges Geodis’s position as the leading domestic express network in France and a supplier with a high level of service quality, as a result of our Total Customer Satisfaction policy. We will draw on our industrial resources, exclusive Track & trace system and our commitment to permanent innovation to manage these operations”, said Denis Zimmer, Senior Vice-president French regions at Geodis.

As of January 1st, 2007 Geodis will perform through its domestic Express groupage network pick-ups and deliveries for FedEx customers in designated areas in France, not directly served by FedEx. FedEx customers will benefit from Geodis’ quality of service and extensive ground infrastructure in those areas of France.
