French La Poste to expand logistics network in Poland

French postal group La Poste seeks to expand its logistics services network in Poland as the logistics market growth in central and eastern Europe is very strong and the return on investments in the region is much faster than in western Europe, the company said on March 22, 2005. La Poste will invest in the near future between 25 mln euro (USD32.9 mln) and 30 mln euro (USD39.5 mln) in the markets of eastern and central Europe, while largest investment will be made in Poland, where the company is already present. La Poste has in Poland, through its subsidiary GeoPost, a courier services provider Masterlink Express and forwarding services provider Air Cargo Poland. The company plans to set up a new logistics services company in the country, which will operate within the network managed by its subsidiary and will offer parcel delivery services DPD.

French La Poste to sell 70 pct of TAT Express

French national post office La Poste announced its plans to sell up to 70 pct of the share capital of its subsidiary, express freight transport company TAT Express, to an unnamed French company, it was reported on March 17, 2005. The French trade unions had been informed for this decision at an extraordinary works’ council dedicated to the opening of the capital of TAT Express on March 10, 2005. TAT Express launched a restructuring plan in December 2003 which led to 200 job cuts and modification of the work contracts of another 200 company employees. TAT Express reduced its agencies in France to 33 and generated a 150 mln euro (USD200.5 mln) turnover for 2004.

Hand Held Products Signs Major Contract With La Poste Subsidiary

Hand Held Products, the worldwide leader in image-based data collection solutions, has signed a EUR10 million pan-European agreement with DPD, a subsidiary of La Poste and part of the Geopost group. This involves hardware and software for an automated delivery scan system.

DPD tested solutions from several vendors before choosing Hand Held Products’ Dolphin(R) 9500 as the basis of its new system. The 9500 is a rugged mobile computer with powerful scanning capabilities and a triple radio with GSM / GPRS, wireless LAN and Bluetooth applications. DPD is initially purchasing over 6,000 customised Dolphins for its depots and delivery trucks in Germany, Switzerland and Benelux.
