Italy govt plans to cut stake in post office to 51 pct

The government plans to cut its direct and indirect stake in the Italian post office Poste Italiane SpA to 51 pct through a private placement and an initial public offering, the daily Finanza & Mercati said. The post office is currently owned by the economy ministry and the state-owned financial group Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. According to the daily, the economy ministry intends to keep a 30 pct stake in the post office and cut CDP’s stake to 21 pct from 35 pct. In a private placement, the government could sell part of Poste Italiane to banks and banking foundations, the newspaper said.

TNT Logistics in Italy expands co-operation with Beta Utensili

Beta Utensili, a manufacturer of high quality hand tools, work wear and professional safety shoes, has signed a contract with TNT Logistics Italy. The five-year contract with Beta envisages that TNT Logistics will provide logistics for tools and small parts marketed by Beta Utensili and adds to an existing contract. The new agreement expands on the one signed in 2001. TNT Logistics will manage goods receiving, handling and storage, order preparation and dispatch throughout Italy as well as managing the administration of returns for Beta. TNT Logistics will operate a dedicated area of 11,500 m2 for the customer within its own plant at Zingonia.

GLS acquires further locations in Italy

Vicenza, Schio, Conegliano and Treviso: GLS acquired another four parcel businesses in Italy – this time from the franchise partner De Vicari. Just shortly before, GLS purchased the parcel businesses of the franchise partner Tavassi. These recent transactions are in line with GLS’ strategy of evolutionarily expanding and strengthening its own operations in Italy’s key regions.
“Including the most recent transaction, GLS’ own locations contribute 15 percent to GLS Italy’s total revenue”, explains Rico Back, CEO of General Logistics Systems B.V., Amsterdam. “In total, GLS has now direct access to customers at 13 locations in Italy. This proximity to the market provides a better understanding of the regional mentality and needs. It allows us to react even more flexibly to our customers’ requirements.”

Prices: Poste Italiane unchanged until end of year

Poste Italiane, the Italian Post Offices, “aware of the government’s politics as to the buying power,” is offering a new on-line payment service for vehicle taxes without any supplement commission, until the end of the year. Poste Italiane is also engaged in maintaining the prices of all services unchanged, says an annotation from Poste Italiane with reference to the news appeared in the press.

Mediobanca interested in stake in Italian post office

The merchant bank Mediobanca SpA is interested in buying a significant stake in the state-owned post office, Poste SpA, the newspaper La Repubblica said citing financial sources. However, the government still has to decide whether and how to privatise the post office, which is 65 pct owned by the economy ministry and 35 pct by the government-owned financial group Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. The government is studying the option of selling part of the ministry’s shares in Poste in a global offering, or breaking up the company into two, one entity containing the post office business and the other the banking operations of Bancoposta.
