Kenyan postal corporation plans to raise Sh1.7 billion

The Postal Corporation of Kenya is planning to raise Sh1.7 billion to fund its recovery strategy over the next four years.

Mr Dan Ameyo, the Post-Master General, says the aim is to return the giant parastatal to profitability. The strategy, he says, is to raise the funds through new product rollout and the opening of new postal facilities countrywide.

DHL Opens New Cargo Hub At Jkia, Kenya

DHL Express has opened a new air express facility at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The facility, Kenya’s largest-ever, is aimed at bolstering DHL Kenya’s position as a transport hub for the East and Central Africa region. The 2200 sq metre facility will operate 24 hours to consolidate inbound and outbound express shipments, and trans-shipment to the DHL Global network, including East and Central Africa, South Africa and the Middle East Region. “The opening of DHL’s new hub is an important milestone for company. As the largest hub of its kind in Kenya, with Customs and Excise personnel on site to manage import/export processing, it will greatly enhance the company’s position as a distribution and transport hub for this region,” said Howard Goldfield, DHL Commercial Manager for Equatorial Africa.

New fund set up to boost rural postal services

A fund is being set up to help improve postal services in rural areas. The Universal Service Fund will encourage mail delivery operators to take their services to unserved and under-served areas. Mr Sammy Kyungu, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Communications, said the fund would be managed by the Communications Commission of Kenya.
