French Finance Minister says time to reform La Poste

French Finance Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said Tuesday that it’s “high time” the country’s state-owned postal company La Poste is reformed. Speaking at a news conference, Sarkozy said, “Ten years after Germany started postal reform, yes, I think it’s high time. “People might say it’s difficult but look at some of the reforms that have been carried out at (partly state-owned) companies like Air France, Renault and France Telecom. These have been successes…people who work there understand that,” the minister said.

France’s La Poste seeks govt approval to raise stamp price to 0.55 eur vs 0.50

French state-owned postal service La Poste said it is seeking government approval to raise the price of stamps for its basic domestic and European deliveries to 0.55 eur from 0.50 currently, as of Feb 1 2005. If the increase is implemented, it will be La Poste’s second price hike since 1996. In May last year, the company raised the price of stamps to 0.50 eur from 0.46 previously.

STO to Cooperate with France La Poste

STO World Wide Express, China’s largest private express company, is intending to cooperate with French La Poste, the third-largest post group in Europe, to step into the international express market. With the commitment to WTO, China’s express market would be open to foreign investment from December 11 of this year, which brings great pressure to express companies. STO needs to expand its business scope under such circumstance, revealed a high-level official of the company. They are seeking foreign business partners in the hope of obtaining new profit growth areas through introducing foreign strategic investment and expanding international express business. Meanwhile, French La Poste is also eager to find a business partner in China, seeing Europe’s first two giants TNT and DHL making profit from China’s express market.
