Brazilian Correios launches Sedex Hoje and Sedex Mundi

The Brazilian postal service company Correios (Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telegrafos) is launching two express delivery services in Rio de Janeiro, Sedex Hoje (local deliveries in the same day) and Sedex Mundi (deliveries to 215 countries), investing RD30mil resources in equipment. Those two new services are included in the Sedex line, with Sedex, e-Sedex and Sedex 10.

ABX Air awarded US Postal Service contract to operate air network during holidays

ABX Air announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the US Postal Service to manage an air network to transport mail during the busy holiday season. The network will include ABX Air aircraft as well as those of other operators. ABX Air will also provide logistics services and hub operations in support of the network. The contract calls for ABX Air to be compensated at a fixed price on a per-day basis and is expected to generate gross revenues of approximately USD5.1 million.

216 SDS staff express interest in redundancy deal

An Post has extended the deadline for expressions of interest in a severance or retirement package being offered to staff at its SDS parcels division, which it is planning to close. Last night, the company confirmed that 216 SDS staff had already expressed an interest in taking an offer of severance or early retirement. The company wants to transfer 180 SDS workers into the An Post business and shed the remaining 270 jobs at the parcels division. The parcels division will then be reintegrated into the parent company in January.

German state sells 1-billion-euro stake in mail carrier

The German government is to sell to institutional investors a stake in mail carrier Deutsche Post that is worth up to 1 billion euros (1.32 billion dollars), government-owned bank KfW said Monday. KfW, which handles many federal-government portfolio investments, is overseeing the placement. It said only institutional investors would be able to bid for the stock. Deutsche Post shares are freely traded on the Frankfurt and other German stock exchanges.

UK Postwatch advises customers to use 2nd class stamps at Christmas

Postwatch, the consumer watchdog for postal services, has reviewed Royal Mail’s performance over the past two Christmases. We found that whilst 2nd class performance dipped slightly, 1st class performance declined dramatically, to the point that more than three in every ten letters posted 1st class failed to be delivered the following working day. Postwatch recommends customers use 2nd class stamps at Christmas.
