Singapore Post announces 9.5% fall in Q2 profit

Singapore’s dominant postal services group, Singapore Post Ltd, has announced a 9.5% fall in second-quarter net profit at S$24.19 million from a year ago.

Last year’s net profit for the same quarter was S$26.75 million.

SingPost’s revenue fell 2.3% to S$89.2 million as international mail revenue dropped.

Regional Russian Post Offices to be merged into unitary enterprise

Since 01 January 2004 all the post offices of the Russian regions will be united into one unitary enterprise “Pochta Rossii”. Igor Syrtsov, Director General of the Federal Unitary Enterprise “Pochta Rossii” made this statement in Nizhny Novgorod at the special conference on Friday. It should be noted that the following officials participated in the conference: Viktor ratnikov, Deputy RF President Plenipotentiary to the Volga district, Andre Melnikov, Director General of the Federal Unitary Enterprise “Pochta Rossii”, Directors of divisions and departments of “Pochta Rossii” Enterprise, etc.

An opportunity for Royal Mail mailsort contracts

Postwatch, the postal watchdog, has called on Royal Mail to improve its Mailsort services by giving at least 3 months’ notice of any contract changes, making sure that discounts are not unfairly withheld and ensuring any disputes with customers are openly resolved.

Peter Carr, Chairman of Postwatch, in support of the recommendations said,
“Within Royal Mail there is a growing awareness that customers must come first.
Unsympathetic responses to legitimate customer concerns should increasingly be a thing of the past.

€2.5bn target for Deutsche Post sale

Deutsche Post, Europe’s biggest postal service, has mandated Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley to manage the initial public offering (IPO) of its Deutsche Postbank unit in what would be Germany’s biggest flotation for two years.

The sale could raise at least €2.5bn ($3bn, £1.7bn), according to Deutsche Post, and would be the biggest since Deutsche Borse, Germany’s stock exchange, and Fraport, operator of the Frankfurt airport, sold shares to the public in 2001.

Milkmen to deliver Royal Mail post backlog

Milkmen were preparing to deliver thousands of letters as Royal Mail chiefs warned that wildcat post strikes could “destroy” the loss-making company.

Executives at Express Dairies have confirmed they are preparing to deliver mail on 3,500 milk rounds to help businesses desperate to get letters and bills out to customers.

However, the milkmen are not able to collect or sort mail posted in letter boxes – and will not be used to clear the backlog in Royal Mail depots.
