Courier companies to invest Pesos 800mil this year in Mexico

The package and mail courier companies who operate in Mexico, such as Aeromexpress Cargo, Airborne, DHL, Fedex, UPS, Servicio Continental de Mensajeria and Pegaso are planning to invest Pesos 800mil this year in equipment updating , says the industry organization, ANMEC (Asociacion Nacional Mexicana de Empresas Courier).

DHL opens new Mexican gateway

With an investment of USD6,000, the DHL Internacional de Mexico logistics and package delivery company has inaugurated its gateway, with which it will strengthen its presence in the interior of the country, as well as its connections with the US and Canada. The gateway is expected to generate a turnover of USD6mil per year and to create 200 direct and indirect jobs. DHL has a market share of around 35% in Mexico, and plans to increase the flow of incoming packages by around 170 as well as significantly reducing both arrival and departure times.

Mexico’s postal service fights to dominate the lucrative lightweight package delivery service

Sepomex has been calling for legal reform that would give it a monopoly on lightweight package deliveries, which could force private couriers to charge up to seven times the government’s prices. The postal service says Mexican laws give it a monopoly on handling small packages but complains those laws are not enforced. Specifically, Sepomex wants Congress to amend laws to clearly state that the postal service alone handles shipments of 350 grams or less. Sepomex also wants to create an independent regulatory organization to investigate postal-code violations and disputes concerning the issue.

FedEx Custom Critical now offers overnight heavyweight freight deliveries to Mexico via a new service, Point-to-Point Mexico.

The service rollout covers overnight deliveries from the US and Canada to Mexico City, Toluca, Monterrey, Saltillo and Guadalajara.
