Dubai Custom works with DHL to create groundbreaking integration solution

Dubai Custom and DHL today officially announced the launch of an integration solution to facilitate a faster clearance process of global import consignments in the UAE.

The revolutionary system incorporates Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), which allows express and logistics companies to send shipment information electronically and receive Customs clearance within minutes.

Commenting on the launch, Bachi Spiga, DHL Area Operations Director Middle East, said:

‘The implementation of this integration solution will provide total customs-clearance and real-time visibility into regional and global trade processes.’

‘Unless there is a need to seek clarification, all transactions will be cleared on the same day. Customs automated feedback over declaration of inbound shipments indicates three possibilities; cleared, on hold or failed depending on the individual status,’ said Mohammed Al Rasasi, Project Manager, Dubai Customs.

Emirates Post to buy Indian company

Emirates Post will acquire an Indian cargo and courier company as it moves into new businesses before its proposed privatisation next year.

New business units are being created to handle logistics and remittances services before the UAE postal firm is put under a holding company, which will oversee its expansion abroad, officials told Gulf News yesterday.

“We are introducing new businesses into the overall structure of Emirates Post. Privatisation is the only way for us to run successful operations in the UAE and go into the global market. We cannot go into the global market as government,” Emirates Post Chairman and UAE Minister of Communications Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri said.

Door-to-door delivery of mail to be a reality soon

Door-to-door delivery of mail will soon become a reality in the UAE once the municipalities of all the emirates jointly furnish a feasibility report addressing the mechanism on devising a new postal address system and a zip code for each area to enable residents receive mail at their doorstep.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdullah Al Daboos, Director-General of Emirates Post, said yesterday that the Dubai Municipality is currently preparing a feasibility report on the address system.

“We have also alerted all other local municipalities to furnish details on the new postal address system after working out a mechanism in cooperation with relevant public sector departments including Etisalat, Empost, Electricity and Water Authority, Police and Civil Defence in the respective emirates.“

Once the municipalities respond with their feasibility report on the postal address system with street numbers and names and building numbers in place, Emirates Post will launch the door-to-door delivery of mail, Al Daboos added.

The new service will be introduced soon because of the growing demand for delivery of mail at the doorstep, said Al Daboos, refusing to give an exact date for the launch of the service.

He said the cost economics of the new service is currently being reviewed, admitting that it is a costly process.
