Israel cuts some postal rates

The Knesset Economics Committee today authorized an average 1.2% lowering of the Israel Postal Authority’s rates. The new rates will become effective on September 1. The NIS 1.20 rate for ordinary letters in Israel, which account for a third of the Postal Authority’s revenue, will not be changed.
On the other hand, bulk mail rates will be reduced by 5.2 while rates for most other services will be raised 1.2%. The cost of an ordinary telegram sent through a postal branch or by telephone will rise from NIS 31.20 to NIS 36. At the request of committee chair MK Avraham Poraz (Shinui), the rate for illustrated greeting cards will not be raised.

German team visits Emirates Post

A high-ranking delegation from Germany’s Deutsche Post recently visited Emirates Post.
The German Delegation comprised Klaus Knappik, Chairman of the Management Board, Dr Gerhard Kompf, Managing Director, and Michael Culme Seymour, Regional Manager Asia Pacific.The delegates discussed with Emirates Post’s officials the possibility of exchanging expertise and the methods used to enhance the postal services standards.
They toured Al Ramool Automated Sorting Centre and the International Transit Hub in Dubai Airport and were acquainted with the special services Emirates Post is providing through its modern facilities.
Abdulla Al Daboos, Emirates Post Director General, said: “The interest expressed by Deutsche Post is very welcome and is an indication of the work that has been carried out to establish the Emirates Post facility.”
Al Daboos has a presentation on Emirates Post’s operational and organisational restructuring as well as the state-of-the-art products recently introduced in light of the corporation’s new identity, set of values, vision and mission.

Rivlin seeks 1.2% average cut in mail rates

Minister of Communications Reuven Rivlin has asked for an average 1.2% reduction in mail rates. The Knesset Economics Committee today discussed the Israel Postal Authority’s proposal not to revise the NIS 1.20 rate for domestic letters, while cutting the tariff for bulk mail by 5.2 and raising the rates for other services by an average of 1.6%

Privatisation of Saudi Postal Services

Al-Bayan newspaper reported on the authorization of the plan to change the status of the Saudi postal service to an Authority managed by representatives from the private and government sectors. The government authorized this at its mid-June 2002 meeting, including the timeline for changing the postal service into the Saudi Postal Authority. Participating in this meeting was Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz. The paper noted that the Supreme Economic Council recommended in August 1999 privatization of the postal service.

New courier licensing system planned for UAE

Emirates Post officials recently met with representatives of international courier companies to discuss the new licensing system by which they can operate in the UAE.

Director-General Abdullah Al Daboos said the new system provides more facilities and privileges to investors to open courier service franchises here.He discussed queries raised by the representatives regarding the new system and noted Emirates Post will continue to support the courier service business for their smooth running.
