Amtrak Express Parcels Ltd has today announced that it has acquired the business and assets of Nightspeed Services Ltd for an undisclosed sum. Nightspeed has been experiencing financial difficulties in recent months and went into administration earlier today. Amtrak had been in discussion with Nightspeed as one of a number of acquisition targets and was able to move quickly to bring certainty to the company and over 900 staff.

Tipton based Nightspeed Secure Worldwide Express has won the ‘Secure Parcel Carrier 2005’ accreditation awarded by the Institute of Transport Management. Independent research has shown that loss and damage figures for parcels delivered by Nightspeed Secure Worldwide Express are the lowest in the industry.

The Tipton-based group splashed out on 16 specialised double-deck trailers – one of the biggest double deck fleet upgrades seen in the industry this year.
Bosses said the move would improve reliability and efficiency of the crucial overnight trunking operation. Managing director Ian Pickford, said: ‘The investment in these double-deck units comes after a range of other key investments throughout the year in both the trunking and collection and delivery fleet.’
