NIPOST Installs Security Screening in Mail Processing Centre

To facilitate easy detection of bombs and metals including prohibited items, the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has installed a multi-purpose screening machine at the International Mail Processing Centre (IMPC-Air), Ikeja, Lagos. According to the Postmaster General of the Federation (PMG), Alhaji Abubakar Musa Argungu, the machine, which cost N18m, has the capacity to record the accurate number of mails processed, ensure careful handling of mail items and accelerate inquiry into loss of postal items.

The Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) has for the second time in about two weeks successfully conducted raids and arrests of those conducting illegal courier business within the Lagos metropolis. Those affected by the action were Delta Line Courier, Transworld Courier, Akinskevin Express and KTA Freight /Courier.

NIPOST 2001 Revenue Higher

Nigerian Communications Minister Dr. Mohammed Bello said that “he was happy with the positive developments in the Nigerian Postal Services (NIPOST) saying that ‘NIPOST generated a total revenue of N1.8 billion in the year 2001, thus recording an increase of over N700 million over the N1.1 billion figure recorded in 2000. The revenue performance therefore represents 82.6 per cent budgetary performance,’ he said.

Nigeria now has a new Nipost

Postmaster-General, Abubakar Argungu, has said that NIPOST has been transformed into an efficient and effective mail delivery organisation. Argungu, who spoke recently in Enugu during a visit to Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, said that “Nigeria now has a new NIPOST.” The postmaster-general further said that the establishment had been turned around “which is one of the dividends of democracy.”

NIPOST's Bulkpost Subsidiary Successful

The setting up of Bulkpost Venture, a subsidiary of the Nigerian Postal Service, two years ago by the management of NIPOST to handle bulkmails in its service delivery and revenue drive has begun yielding dividends. According to the venture’s manager, Umar K. Musa, in an exclusive chat with Broad Street Pulse, over N180,000,000 has so far been realised in its bulkmails, including dividend warrants, annual general meeting notices, bank statements, share certificates, bills and examination slips.
