Berlin mayor presents DHL GoGreen parcel to Bill Clinton

During the Large Cities Climate Summit in New York City on May 16th, Klaus Wowereit, Mayor of Berlin, met with former President Bill Clinton to present him with a DHL GoGreen carbon-neutral parcel containing cultural gifts from Berlin. The parcel was among more than a dozen that DHL transported to New York City from Berlin using its unique GoGreen service. DHL is the first logistics provider to offer customers the option to help offset emissions stemming from their shipments by paying a small voluntary fee. The DHL verified Carbon Management system guarantees that the money is invested in internal and external carbon-reduction projects such as alternative fuel vehicles, solar cells and reforestation projects. Launched in Europe in late 2006, DHL intends to expand the GoGreen service to other regions including the United States over the next few years. President Clinton was the principal speaker at the Climate Summit that evening.

FedEx and U.S. Commercial Service renew commitment to boost U.S. exports

FedEx Corp. and the Commerce Department’s U.S. Commercial Service announced a new five-year agreement aimed at boosting exports from U.S. businesses. The agreement is designed to help simplify the complexity of international trade, particularly for small- and medium-size businesses looking to source and sell in the global marketplace.

FedEx and the Commercial Service created the concept for their joint trade promotion initiative in 2004. Since joining forces, FedEx and the Commercial Service have introduced approximately 10,000 clients to the business of exporting. As part of the new five-year agreement, FedEx and the Commercial Service will continue to help U.S. businesses develop successful export strategies through free resources such as market research, trade leads, export seminars, and supply chain management services.

U.S. exporters stand to benefit from the joint resources of FedEx and the Commercial Service. The U.S. Commercial Service has trade specialists in more than 100 U.S. cities and 80 countries to help companies start exporting or increase sales to new global markets. The FedEx network is also extensive, providing access to more than 220 countries and territories worldwide, and connecting markets that comprise more than 90 percent of the world’s GDP. FedEx also offers global trade technology and tools to empower U.S. exporters, including customs clearance solutions.

Customer satisfaction report: FedEx, UPS, USPS

The ACSI report, released on Tuesday, presented customer satisfaction results in different segments.

United Parcel Service Inc. scored an 81, losing to FedEx’s 84 but beating the U.S. Postal Service’s score of 77. UPS’ score in 2006 was 83.

FedEx eyes Oregon for distribution hub

FedEx Corporation reportedly is eyeing Oregon as the site for a Northwest distribution hub.

The Oregonian newspaper is quoting local officials as saying the Memphis-based company is considering the former Alcoa-Reynolds Metals site north of the Troutdale airport to become one of nine regional distribution centers.

FedEx held a pre-application meeting with the city in late April and plans to submit its formal request in June or July. According to FedEx pre-application documents, the company plans to employ 765 people in the initial phase of development.
