Norway Post announces interim results for the first half of 2003

Norway Post’s interim financial report for the first half of 2003 shows growth and a positive development in results. The company’s total operating revenues rose by five per cent. Its result before tax turned from minus to plus, compared with the first half of last year. Underlying operations improved by NOK 150 million. Restructuring projects are progressing according to schedule and the streamlining work continues.

Iceland becomes latest addition to PNLs Nordic postal alliance

Owned by the Norwegian and Danish Post Offices, Pan Nordic Logistics (PNL), is now completing its Nordic postal alliance by signing an agreement with Iceland Post. The result will be a comprehensive network reaching all households and companies in Iceland, the rest of the Nordic region, and the Baltic region. This partnership with Iceland Post means that the company is integrating its network. In the long run, Iceland Post and PNL will jointly develop services for the Nordic market.

Customer Demand Leads to Expansion of International Service

In Europe, few postal operators now share the parcels market.

The German, Dutch and French postal operators now control 45% of the European parcels market. The market was estimated to be worth 36bn Euros in 2002. According to Claude Béglé (Director General of European operator Geopost) “the smaller postal operators which are not currently part of one the three main networks will have to sell themselves to one of the three in the next five years. No postal administrations will be able to survive by concentrating on mail only due to the costs of maintaining a large retail network and sorting centres“. (translation from original)
