GCC postal committee to review quality of mail services

A GCC committee assigned with improving postal services will meet here on Tuesday to discuss type of mail services and standards of packages for GCC states.

Director of Qatar’s Postal Service Authority Ali al-Ali said the officials in the six member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) would review and evaluate outcome of the constant surveillance test process of the postal services in the region during the first quarter of 2007.

He said the two-day meeting is also designed to review experiences of the member countries in postal services and obstacles facing each state.

The meeting is in implementation of a decision taken by directors of postal services in the six member countries during their meeting last November, Ali said.

The decision assigned the UAE postal authority to evluate standards of postal services in the member states, Ali added.

Qatar and China keen on boosting postal ties

Qatar and China would soon explore the possibility of enhancing co-operation between the two countries in the postal sector, a Q-Post communique said yesterday.
This was decided after a meeting between the Chinese Ambassador to Qatar Li Jian Ying and Chairman of Q-Post Ali Mohamed al-Ali yesterday at the latter’s office.
While thanking Qatar for launching a customised stamp dedicated to the next Asian Games, the ambassador praised the efforts being made by the postal corporation in revamping the sector in Qatar.
The ambassador congratulated the postal authorities for setting up temporary offices at some major Games venues for the benefit of the visitors. He appreciated Q-Post’s gesture in releasing over 1,000 sheets of customised stamps on the next Asian Games that Guangzhou in China would host.

Qatar first Arab nation to bag postal Quality award

Q-POST has been chosen for the Quality award of the prestigious World Mail Awards. Announcing this yesterday at a ceremony held at the General Post Office, Q-Post Chairman Ali Mohamed al-Ali said Qatar’s postal corporation was the first in the entire Arab region to have been bestowed with the honour. Terming the award as a “great honour” for the corporation, al-Ali said Q-Post was chosen in face of fierce competition by several postal corporations from all over the world.

Qatar Post IPO within next three years

Qatar’s General Postal Corporation (Q-Post), which was granted autonomy in 2001, is expected to launch an Initial Public Offering (IPO) and get listed on the Doha Securities Market within the next three years, Ali Mohammad Al Ali, the Q-Post chairman, said on Thursday. At a press conference held at the Doha General Post Office, Ali said that making Q-Post a publicly held company, was one of the plans of the government. “We have all the required infrastructure and the brains to become a profitable public company and it will eventually become one,” he added. Emirates Post, the postal organization of the UAE, floated its IPO last week.
