Hays chief quits after just 10 months

The new chief executive of Hays, the personnel, haulage and private mail group, which is selling off all but its staff recruitment business, has shocked the City by announcing his departure after just 10 months in the job.

Colin Matthews, who joined Hays last November after stints with British Airways and the gas network Transco, said he planned to leave next year once the sale of the group’s haulage division had been completed.

Hays UK to sell core businesses

Struggling support services group Hays hung a “for sale” sign around the necks of three of its four businesses yesterday, after posting a 23 per cent dive in first-half profits.

In an attempt to get back on track, Hays said its business services, haulage, and even its fledgling mail delivery business will be sold off, leaving the group to concentrate on its recruitment division.
