TPN close to hub deal

Palletways in Europe push

Palletways is to launch a major European expansion drive, new chief executive James Wilson told Motor Transport in his first – and exclusive – interview. Maintaining a strong UK focus, following a refinancing deal with Phoenix Equity Partners, is also crucial to the network’s development plans. “We are in the middle of the planning phase and are looking at a number of different models. We are determined to learn from the experience of UPS and FedEx who copied their US models into Europe, which maybe wasn’t the best way. We are keen to expand but the model needs to reflect the marketplace,” says Wilson. “Palletways has the scale to support a European plan and has a blank sheet of paper so it can reflect the new emerging markets.”

Alliance closes European circle for pallet clients

Pallet network Pall-Ex has formed a strategic alliance with Hellmann Worldwide Logistics to give its members and customers pan-European coverage.
Pall-Ex has existing partners in Germany, Scandinavia and Spain and has been trunking into Europe on an ad hoc basis. From 2 August, it will offer a scheduled five-nights-a-week service available for quarter, half and full pallets.

Milestone for pallet firm

THE 1.5 millionth pallet handled by Fortec Pallet, one of the nation’s leading pallet distribution networks, has passed through its Rugby hub.

Phill Vann, night hub manager, was on hand as forklift driver Kelly Slater loaded the 1.5 millionth pallet on to the trailer driven by Alison Stead.

Rod Abrahams, managing director of Fortec Pallet, said: “To reach 1.5 million pallets is a major milestone for Fortec Pallet.
