600 new jobs at mail centre

MORE than 600 jobs are being created in Plymouth with the official unveiling today of the country’s first state-of-the-art mail centre.
Royal Mail has opened the first Manual Data Entry Centre (MDEC) at its former offices in Pennycomequick to help speed up the nation’s post.
The centre is the first of two being set up in the UK and is part of a national initiative called Address Interpretation (AI).

Royal Mail Service Lets Mailers Pre-book Mailings

Royal Mail has released details of a new booking center service that allows advertisers and their agencies or mailing houses to register upcoming activity and get a unit cost for their specific mailings.
Royal Mail said this lets advertisers more accurately calculate the cost of mailing as part of the campaign. The agency said the cost of the package depends on three key considerations: The size and weight of the items; when they need to be delivered; and the number of items. Mailings can be booked with a range of delivery options from next day to seven days.

Regulator backs down over threat to Royal Mail

THE POSTAL regulator is set to back down in its dispute with Consignia over the opening up of the postal market by slowing down the introduction of competition to the Royal Mail.
The move, due to be announced next month by Postcomm, follows a warning last week from Consignia that first and second-class stamp prices may have to rise by 3p a year if its monopoly is broken up too quickly.

Royal Mail introduces new direct mail scheme

Royal Mail has introduced a new direct mail scheme, which has yet to be named. It is designed to make running a mailing as easy as booking a TV, radio or poster campaign. Through a dedicated booking centre, agencies, client companies and mailing houses will now be able to receive an upfront, all-inclusive price for each campaign – and no doubt many would say, “about time too”.
