Ahmed Balhaif appointed Deputy CEO of Empost Warehousing and Land Transportation

Empost, the UAE’s leading integrated courier, freight forwarding and logistics company, announced the appointment of Ahmed Balhaif as the deputy CEO of its Warehousing and Land Transport Division.

The appointment comes in the wake of Empost’s ambitious expansion plans to become the region’s leading service provider. With the freight forwarding and logistics industry witnessing a substantial boom in the region, Empost announced its entry into the field with the introduction of a dedicated Cargo and Logistics division. Since then Empost has been engaged in implementing various strategies to boost the company’s expansion plans.

The appointment of Ahmed Balhaif, an experienced campaigner in the industry, is another positive step through which Empost aims to build a highly professional unit that will epitomise quality and customer satisfaction.

Ahmed, a graduate in Business Administration, prior to joining Empost was the Operations Director with Emirates Post. Ahmed’s eight years tenure with Emirates Post has helped him understand the various facets of the postal and courier industry. He feels that the new responsibility vested on him will be a great opportunity to further enhance his experience and knowledge within the freight forwarding and logistics field. Ahmed said “It is a challenging phase for me and I am confident of taking Empost to greater heights”.

Appointments – latest CEP managerial changes

A number of senior managerial changes have been announced by leading international express and parcel operators during May.

Jan Engels (47) has been appointed managing director marketing & sales at DHL Express Benelux as of June 1.

Ben Gordon has been named Express Logistics Operations and Implementations Manager for UAE.

Jean-Sébastien Leridon (32) has been named Commercial and Marketing director for DHL Global Mail in France. Thomas Sonnenschein (37) is the new secretary general of DHL Global Mail in France, responsible for administration and finances.

Jürgen Seifert has been named to the management board of TNT Express in Germany, with responsibility for Human Resources & General Services.

Andrew Watson has been appointed National Operations Manager in Bahrain with responsibility for country operations and the local road and air hubs.

Davide Rosetti has been named commercial director for Southern Europe, with responsibility for sales and commercial development.

UPS expands operations in United Arab Emirates

In an expansion drive for 2007, UPS in UAE announced that it has extended its express operations by opening its largest-ever facility to accommodate the rise in demand for express delivery and logistics solutions in the Emirates.

The new facility has the capacity to meet the challenges of the UAE’s increasingly sophisticated business environment and increasing customer demands. The location of the new facility in Al Quoz is strategically situated to service the growing commercial and residential developments taking place in areas such asBusiness Bay, Old Town and Burj Dubai, as well as Dubai Healthcare City.

UPS also expects to introduce the DIAD IV -a new generation of wireless driver handheld computers – into its UAE express operations in the fourth quarter of 2007. This will enable UPS to dramatically reduce its fuel consumption by streamlining route planning, vehicle loading and package delivery.

Currently UPS has three operations facilities located in DAFZA, JAFZA and Abu Dhabi, as well as customer service facilities in Al Ain, Fujairah, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah to serve the needs of its clients in the UAE. The new express operations center will allow UPS to enhance its express services and achieve the company’s global vision of offering ‘synchronized commerce’ to its customers.

DHL UAE appointment

Logistics outfit DHL has appointed Ben Gordon as its new Express Logistics Operations and Implementations Manager for the UAE. Gordon will be responsible for managing DHL Express Logistics Centres in the free zones of Dubai International Airport and Jebel Ali, as well as two strategic part centres in Abu Dhabi and Al Quoz.
