Parcel and courier firms may request North American Free Trade Agreement panel if transport law is approved

If the new Federal Transport Law (FLT) is approved foreign parcel services and courier firms could request that the government set up a controversy-resolution panel under the framework of the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta), acknowledged the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Transport Commission, Eugenio Orestes Pérez Cruz. This was confirmed by Ernesto Romero president of the National Association of Courier Companies, which includes Fedex, UPS and DHL.Orestes Pérez Cruz said that foreign companies felt that they were affected by certain elements of the new transport bill.

U.S. Postal Service may seek rate increase 2 years early

The U.S. Postal Service may push for its next increase on postage rates as early as next month and two years sooner than scheduled, according to postal officials. The Postal Service has yet to convince Congress to pass legislation reducing its contribution to a federal-government retirement fund. The agency is burdened by USD3bn in debt, and a Congressional approval of the bill could delay the next rate increase until 2006.
