UPS Chairman appointed to US President's Export Council

Mike Eskew, the chairman and CEO of United Parcel Service, today was sworn in by President George W. Bush to the President’s Export Council.

“The President’s Export Council is the premier national advisory committee on international trade, and I know Mike Eskew will have a positive impact in his advisory role to the President,” stated Commerce Secretary Don Evans. “Twelve million American jobs depend on exports of goods and services. The President’s economic growth plan has set the course for a stronger economy that underscores the importance of trade to America’s economic growth and prosperity.”

Pitney Bowes Inc.today introduced SmartMailer(TM) 7.0, a user-friendly mail management software that enables mailers to better manage their mail flow. SmartMailer 7.0 is easy to use and enables businesses to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of their mailings with enhanced address database functions and the ability to send combined mailings, and to save money by eliminating duplicate, and reducing undeliverable, addresses. According to the United States Postal Service, 1.5 billion dollars in postal costs are attributable annually to undeliverable as addressed mail due to poor customer data.

UPS plan for Mail Boxes Etc has some franchisees mulling lawsuit

Some Mail Boxes Etc. franchisees are upset about United Parcel Service’s plans to convert the retail outlets to the UPS Store, and they may attempt to block the move in court. Two years after buying Mail Boxes Etc.,UPS is asking the franchisees to sign an amendment within a month that would make the outlets UPS stores. To sweeten the deal, UPS is offering the franchisees a 20 percent reduced rate over what the average Mail Boxes Etc. now charges. But FedEx, which has long served Mail Boxes Etc., will bow out if the stores rebrand with a competitor’s name, said Howard Clabo, FedEx spokesman.
