DHL sets rate hike

DHL Worldwide Express announced Monday that it will raise rates by 3.5 percent on Feb. 2 on most of its U.S. domestic and U.S. outbound services.

The increase is the same as the price increases announced by FedEx Corp. that took effect Monday and similar to those of Airborne Express and United Parcel Service. The Airborne and UPS increases also were implemented Monday. Airborne, for example, said its rates for its 10:30 AM, Express AM, Next Afternoon, and Two Day service are rising by an average of 3 percent. The increase for Airborne’s international express service will average 4 percent, while rates for its Ground and its at-home service will go up an average of 3.9 percent.

UPS is Bluetooth enabling its $1B Louisville Worldport

UPS is spending $20 million to replace old scanners with Bluetooth-enabled devices.

Each of the 304,000 packages sorted per hour at the 4-million-square-foot facility must be scanned so that UPS can provide customers with accurate tracking data.

Beginning in June 2003, UPS will start a $20 million project to replace wearable Symbol Technologies scanners at 1,700 hubs worldwide, including Worldport, with 55,000 devices that use Bluetooth wireless technology.

American Realty Advisors funds loan for Fedex development

American Realty Advisors, an institutional real estate investment manager, announced today the funding of $13.3 million in construction and permanent loan financing to a California based developer for the construction of a truck terminal and maintenance building located in Los Angeles County, CA, fully pre-leased to FedEx Corporation. The loan investment was made on behalf of one of American’s pension fund clients.
