Through this period, the Postal Service reported a loss of $87.3 million, which is $419.9 million worse than plan. These results explain the rapidly declining official projections of the Postal Service’s financial performance. In four months, the Postal Service’s public pronouncements about this year’s prospects have changed from a surplus of $150 million to a deficit of $2 billion.
