USPS recognised Internationally for Best Industry Practices

The US Postal Service has been honored with four awards recognising excellence in the postal sector at the sixth annual World Mail Awards event held recently in Brussels, Belgium. Acknowledged as leaders in customer service, innovation, e-Commerce and security, the Postal Service was cited as setting the highest standard for the mailing industry.

The Postal Service was represented at the event by Charles Bravo, Senior Vice President of Intelligent Mail and Address Quality. Awards were presented in nine categories ranging from e-Commerce to marketing were presented by Triangle Management Services, founders of the World Mail Awards program.

“It’s a great honor to be recognised for our industry practices,” said Bravo. “We hope that by sharing what we’ve learned, we can benefit other postal administrations.”

USPS continues to report volume gains

Jim Cochrane, Manager of Package Services for the USPS stated at Bear Stearns Transport Conference that volume growth within its Priority and Express Mail, and Parcel Post producs (all of which compete with UPS, FedEx and DHL Amercias products) continues to trend positive. The USPS had learned its lesson from taking too large rate increases too close together when it raised Priority Mail prices by 30% in two years in 2001-2002. After shrinking for three years, Priority Mail and Parcel Post grew 2.8% (including 5.5% in March) and 8.4% last quarter.

US Postal service to offer personalised ‘Stamps’

The US Postal Service are due to begin the second phase of a trial program that allows customers to access authorized Web sites where they can personalise postage with photos and images.

In an era of e-mail that is making old-fashioned letter writing a lost art, the Postal Service hopes to make hand-delivered mail more interesting and valuable.

The Postal Service’s authorised program, called PC Postage, is not a stamp. It includes an image generated by the customer and a secure bar code that is compatible with Postal Service mail processing systems.

Vendors that provide PC Postage must be authorised by the Postal Service but can determine their own prices. PC Postage will be accepted for first-class, Priority and Express mail.

US Postal Service holding strong in overnight delivery

Postmaster General John E. Potter told to Postal Service Board of Governors today that the agency continues to deliver record service and customer satisfaction across the nation. “Nationally, we achieved an on-time score of 95 percent for overnight First-Class Mail service for the 9th consecutive quarter. We also achieved a customer satisfaction measurement score of 93 percent marking the 14th consecutive quarter at that mark or better. The board also heard from Chief Financial Officer Richard J. Strasser, Jr., that mail volume in the 2nd Quarter showed a gain of 600 million pieces, to 52.1 billion, and a USD17 million increase in revenue.
