Russia to have 3,000 Post Office internet outlets by end 2002

Russia’s Communications and IT Ministry expects to increase the number of public access Internet outlets at Russian post offices to 3,000 by the end of 2002, First Deputy Minister Alexander Kiselyov told reporters Wednesday.

Kiselyov added that the ministry hoped that Russia would have about 5,000-7,000 public access Internet outlets in 2003.

Australia Post sees record profit, on prowl for acquisitions

Australia Post today achieved a record profit after tax of $A297 million ($US163.8 million) for the financial year 2002, as its chairman Linda Nicholls said the company was one of the best performing postal services in the world.

She said the quality of the corporation’s earnings improved markedly with underlying trading performance up by more than $A49 million ($US27.02 million).

The profit after tax was reached off total revenue of $A3.758 billion ($US2.07 billion), up from the previous year’s revenue of $A3.748 billion ($US2.07 billion).

Postcomm modifies UK Mail’s licence

Following consultation, Postcomm today approved a modification to the interim postal licence held by UK Mail Ltd.
The modification will allow UK Mail to carry out a wider range of activities for its existing business customers in the event of industrial action by Royal Mail workers, or an emergency or a natural disaster.
