DHL offers recipient ID and age checks for German parcels

DHL Parcel Germany has extended its product range with an optional new service for domestic delivery providing identity and age verification for shipments that contain expensive or sensitive goods.

When handing over a parcel to the recipient, the DHL courier can cross-check the identity card of the recipient with the identity provided by the shipper, and record the personal data in the held-hand scanner. If the shipper also requires age verification, the DHL worker checks if the recipient has reached the required minimum age.

“It is becoming increasingly important to shippers and recipients that the goods they ship do not fall into the wrong hands, especially when it comes to products such as mobile phones, computer games, videos or pharmaceuticals,” explained Dr. Andrej Busch, DHL Parcel Germany board member. “With the identity and age verification we ensure from now on that these parcels are only handed over personally to the recipient,” he added.

The new service responds to the growth in online distance trading in recent years. In particular, there has been a strong increase in online orders of products that require a thorough verification of the recipient and his or her age in line with legal regulations.

The DHL identity and age verification service provides the appropriate solution for the relatively anonymous ordering procedure via the internet. For this purpose, the shipper has to transfer the respective data of the recipient electronically to DHL in advance.

Azkar opens new office in Shanghai

The opening of Azkar Overseas new facilities, the subsidiary of Transportes Azkar, S.A., has been today in China specifically in Shanghai city. The act has been present, among others, Executive Vice President and CEO of Azkar, Jose Antonio Orozco, as well as the Mayor of Lugo, Jose Lopez Orozco, and Vice Chairman of the County Council, Lara Mendez, both were in a trade mission in China.

Azkar moves to another bigger facilities that it will be managed by a group of expert professionals fluent in Chinese, Spanish, Russian and English.

Azkar has the capacity to coordinate directly the providers with the suppliers of its customers in Asia, with China as the main point of origin, but without ruling out other countries of the Asia Southeast Region. The Company also offers high-performance logistics services for storage, order preparation (including kitting, assembly, mounting, etc), mercahandise control and distribution, as part of the integral service.

USPS Governor Ellen Williams reappointed

President George W. Bush has appointed US Postal Service Board of Governors member Ellen Williams for a second term ending on December 8, 2014.
The president first appointed Williams to the board in 2006 to serve the remainder of an unexpired term. At that time, she replaced John Gardner, who had held a recess appointment following the death of former governor Legree Daniels in November of 2005.
Governor Williams currently serves as vice chair of the board’s Compensation and Management Resources Committee and is a member of the Government Relations and Regulatory Committee.
She previously served as vice chairman of the Kentucky Public Service Commission and was chairman of the Republican Party of Kentucky.
She currently runs her own business, Ellen C. Williams LLC, a government affairs and lobbying firm. A graduate of the University of Kentucky, she lives in Anderson County, KY.
The USPS Board of Governors consists of nine governors who are appointed by the president and the consent of the Senate. No more than five of the nine governors can be members of the same party.
