Myanmar international express mail services to expand to 30 more countries

The state-run Myanmar International Express Mail Services (EMS) will expand its services to 30 more countries starting July 1, the local Weekly Eleven News reported Tuesday.

The Myanmar EMS International under the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs is currently rendering services to 32 countries in Asia and North America.

The expansion would bring the total number of countries to where the EMS International is accessible to 62.

Statement from TNT on relationship with Japan Post

In reaction to articles in the Japanese Press, TNT makes the following statement: On October 31, 2005 TNT and Japan Post announced an intention to establish a joint venture in International Express. For TNT this joint venture would be an addition to its recent acquisition in China and start of a road based network in South East Asia and would form part of its overall strategy to build a leading position in the Asian Express market.

At this stage, parties have not been able to reach agreement on the joint venture; however, TNT continues to explore opportunities for cooperation with Japan Post, including alternative JV structures.

Postal strike looms as Royal Mail talks break down

The Communication Workers Union is expected to take a step closer to its biggest confrontation with Royal Mail in a decade by calling a ballot on industrial action later today which could lead to the first national postal strike since 1996.

The union is at loggerheads with Royal Mail over its decision to impose a 2.9% pay deal, which it had rejected. The CWE is also concerned about the possibility of big job losses, increases in part-time working and Royal Mail’s plans to offer up to 20% of the shares in the company to workers – a move the CWU regards as backdoor privatisation.

Gov't mulling Toyota Italy's Kitamura as head of mail delivery firm

The government is eyeing Norio Kitamura, chairman of Toyota Motor Italia, to assume the presidency of a mail delivery service company to be created through the privatization of Japan Post in October 2007, sources familiar with the issue said Friday.
Kitamura, 64, has emerged as the likeliest candidate for the new post as Toshihiro Takahashi, currently vice president of Japan Post and a former Toyota Motor Corp. managing director, declined to take the position when asked by the government, the sources said.
