DHL Express plans to invest USD11 mln (9.17 mln euro) between 2006 and 2011 in improving its door-to-door service in Argentina, the company said on March 28, 2006. DHL Express offers that service in Argentina only to corporate clients at present. By 2011 DHL plans to offer the service in the main 150 Argentine cities.

The better-than-expected results were driven by strong growth in US ground deliveries during the busy Christmas holiday season and continued expansion in its international express business. FedEx has been among the best performers in the transportation sector during recent years as global trade increases and manufacturers and retailers shift towards just-in-time supply chains. Fred Smith, chief executive, said the world economy remained robust, and predicted US growth of 3.2 per cent during the company’s 2007 fiscal year, which begins in June. Mr Smith said FedEx remained on the lookout for acquisitions as the global transport and logistics industry consolidated. But he said the company would not be rushed into deals. “We’re not going to overpay for something because it simply destroys shareholder value and we need to make sure there is a great synergy,” he said.
UPS today announced it had completed the rollout of UPS Trade Direct Air and Ocean services to facilitate export shipments from the United States and Canada to Europe. UPS Trade Direct services streamline the supply chain by making it easy to move goods through customs that are destined for multiple locations but transported in one shipment. Trade Direct eliminates the need for client distribution centers in the receiving country for breaking apart freight shipments, minimizing handling and carrying costs. This latest expansion follows the successful implementation of the service in 2004 along other major routes. UPS launched Trade Direct services outbound from Europe to the United States in January 2005 as well as inbound from Asia to Europe in June 2005.
