Until January 2010, DPD and GastroSuisse plan to establish over 200 DPD parcel shops integrated in Swiss hotels and restaurants. DPD aims to launch up to 1,000 new parcel pick-up and drop-off stations across Switzerland within the coming three to five years.
Georges Champoud, General Director of DPD Switzerland, underlined that the project proves that the private sector is able to provide a valuable and up-to-date service which is highly demanded among customers.
“With GastroSuisse, we have found a cooperation partner exactly meeting our service expectations in terms of business culture and efficiency,” said Champoud. “We are looking forward to the cooperation. We will do our best for our customers and we’re convinced that our partner will do the same.”
The president of GastroSuisse, Klaus Künzli, stressed the advantages of the new DPD parcel shops for consumers as well as for association members: “GastroSuisse has an economic and operational responsibility with its over 21,000 members. We are open to the dynamic of the social and economic development and we launch and support corporate forward-looking initiatives. In times of general mobility, the DPD parcel shops offer a reliable and always accessible parcel pick-up and drop-off solution as well as new opportunities for our restaurants to earn money.”
DPD parcel shops will be installed at particularly qualified restaurants and hotels which can be reached by private and business customers outside normal working hours and on weekends.
DPD Switzerland operates 12 logistics centres in the country and employs 700 people.
