Ghana Post expects government support

The Ghanaian Government will continue to support reforms and modernisation of Ghana Post, in order to provide greater flexibility in its operations. The deputy minister for communications Gideon Quarcoo gave the assurance at the opening of a five-day regional workshop in Accra, for five West African countries on the adoption of new approaches to field support for quality service delivery.

Quarcoo said it is the government’s determination to ensure that all citizens of Ghana enjoy access to the best possible universal postal service at the lowest price.

“It is obvious that today’s environment demands innovative ideas from business that want to survive”, hence the Ghana Post must take advantage of the wealth creating capacities of the new systems to re-invent the postal business to winning enterprise.

ICT, he noted, has taken a lot of businesses away from the Service, but was quick to point out that, the same ICT can provide the Ghana Post with limitless opportunities to regain revenue lost.

Ghana Post managing director Abdulai Abdul-Rafiu hinted that the service will soon introduce modernisation, including the computerisation and networking of all post offices in the country to become more efficient.

“We in Ghana Post have reached a stage  where we need to re-position ourselves to face the changes in the industry squarely and even go on to become an industry  leader,” he stressed.
