HMV fights sales dip with home delivery service
HMV is planning to roll out a store-to-door home delivery service to give shoppers in smaller stores access to its full range.
The entertainment retailer has piloted the service in 20 outlets, but will expand the operation across its estate from August.
The news is part of HMV’s fight-back strategy as it attempts to become a major multi-channel retailer and reverse its sales decline.
The service will enable customers to order product from HMV’s 500,000-strong range and have it delivered to their homes within two days. An initial 20 stores will offer the service through Chip and PIN-enabled touchscreen kiosks, while staff at HMV’s other 2,034 outlets will take orders from customers.
HMV managing director Steve Knott said: “The whole of entertainment retail has experienced difficulties, but we have got the plan and team in place to arrest these negative trends.”
The relocation to Guernsey of the fulfilment arm of HMV’s internet business has generated a sales lift of 80 per cent by enabling the retailer to be more competitive on price.
