UK Royal Mail’s First Class service at all-time high

Royal Mail’s quality of service to customers has hit record levels for the first quarter of 2006-07 (end of March to early June), with 94.1% of First Class letters arriving the next working day after posting, according to preliminary figures published today. This is well above its 93.0% national target.

Second Class mail also beat its 98.5% target, with a 99.1% performance over the same three-month period – its best first quarter result on record.

“These are fantastic results and shows we are delivering the best quality of service to our customers on record,” said Ian Griffiths, Managing Director, Royal Mail Letters. “I’d like to say a big thank-you to all our postmen and women for all their hard work and for continuing to do a first class job.”

Mail services used by larger businesses also exceeded their targets, including Mailsort bulk business mail services, Presstream for magazine and catalogue mail, PPI (Postage Paid Impression) services for mail posted in pre-paid envelopes.

Royal Mail’s Special Delivery guaranteed next day service hit its target with a 99.0% performance over the first quarter of 2006-07.

“The challenge we now face is to continue improving upon the consistent, high quality service we are delivering to our customers as competitors are becoming established in the UK mail market – which was opened to full competition from January 2006,” Mr Griffiths said. “We are determined to meet that challenge.”
