USPS expands discount programme

USPS, expanding on its “summer sale” program announced earlier this year, is rolling out a similar mail discount program for the fourth quarter to encourage increased first-class commercial mailings, report BtoB magazine. To be eligible, mailers must have dropped a minimum of 500,000 first-class, non-parcel pieces in the fourth quarters of 2008 and 2007. Such proven volume mailers will receive a 20% rebate on the amount of pre-sorted letters, flats and cards above these previous levels that are mailed during the final three months of this year.

The new program is similar to the USPS’ current discount program for standard mail. The USPS said it expects the fall discount program to generate new first-class volume of 103m mailed pieces, with a similar number of pieces upgrading from standard mail rates to first class to take advantage of the new program.
