Polish Post & Gov. Differ on Pace of Liberalization

Poczta Polska (Polish Post) and the Ministry of Communication have different ideas on the way which the liberalisation of the postal services market should go. The ministry would rather welcome more operators before Poland joints the European Union, the Post wants to delay the process as long as possible. The consumers would surely have more interest in allowing new operators on the market, which would undoubtedly improve the quality of service and lower costs. Poczta Polska, on the other hand, could easily perish in the battle with such giants as Deutsche Post or Royal Mail, which already mark their presence in Poland through courier message services. The Post finds an ally in the Sejm, which proved to be very torpid in setting the new post law. The respective bill got stuck in the Sejm committee for post and communication, and has lingered there since March 2000.
