Solar rickshaws introduced in India

The Department of Posts in India has introduced solar power rickshaws. The move is aimed at making the lives of postal workers easier.

Ten of the vehicles will be trialled in Ajmer, before a national rollout takes place.

Running on solar batteries, the ‘Soleckshaw’ is pollution-free.

“A recent survey has shown that a postman has to traverse a distance of 40-50 km daily to deliver post and parcel packages weighting up to 10-15 kg,” said the minister of state for communications and IT, Sachin Pilot.

Pilot also mentioned that the new transport will enable easier and timely delivery of posts to remote regions as well.
