UPS mulling Chile alliance

United Parcel Service is considering an alliance with Chilexpress or Lan Courier to operate nationwide in Chile, according to published reports.

UPS has in the past worked with Lan Courier, a Chilean express provider, and is now working with Chilexpress, also a courier service. The reports said that UPS, headquartered in Atlanta, want to link up with a local company that offers a national delivery system. In exchange, UPS will facilitate international delivery for its partner. In the short term, UPS plans to open offices in Santiago, Valparaiso and Iquique in Chile.

Chile’s package delivery market has grown by about 10% in 2001.
