World Courier acquires SMS Temp Critical

World Courier has acquired UK-based SMS Temp Critical, a temperature-controlled road transportation company. SMS Temp Critical provided services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and healthcare industries. The new company, known as World Courier Ground (Europe) Ltd., will be based in Hythe, Kent.

“The acquisition of SMS Temp Critical was a perfect fit for World Courier,” said Wayne Heyland, president of the World Courier group of companies.

“SMS provides sophisticated temperature-controlled ground services that are complementary to those provided by World Courier and shares a common philosophy of quality, customer care and regulatory compliance.

“With this acquisition, we can provide customers with more scheduling options for the distribution of their temperature-sensitive shipments within Europe without compromising the quality, control, flexibility, or risk reduction strategies that customers have come to expect from World Courier,” added Heyland.

The new company has invested heavily in staff and driver training and development, validated vehicles, advanced telematics and operational software including real-time satellite tracking capabilities to meet the most demanding temperature-control requirements of the pharmaceutical industry.

World Courier Ground (Europe) Ltd. said it is able to handle the inter-European transport of investigational medicinal products (IMPs) as well as larger bulk shipments for clinical trials at a variety of temperatures ranges: +2°C to +8°C (refrigerated), -20°C (frozen) and +15°C to +25°C (ambient).

Furthermore, the company said it recognises and complies with all relevant aspects of Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines set forth by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK.
