Japanese mail unit halts graduate recruitment

Japan Post Service Co. has been forced to scrap plans to hire new graduates for the next fiscal year. The Japan Post Group-owned mail unit will not recruit the graduates due to poor business performance, according to reports in the Japanese media.

It was reported that the unit expects to make a net loss of around 54bn yen (aprox. $653m) for the 2010 fiscal year, which ends in March.

The recruitment suspension will affect students who graduate from April; however for the 2011 fiscal year the company will reportedly take on 1,250 staff for other job categories.

The three remaining arms of Japan Post group – Japan Post Bank Co, Japan Post Network Co, and Japan Post Insurance Co – will recruit graduates for the 2011 fiscal year, it was said.
