TNT postal retail services extended through in-store kiosks

Software and pattern recognition specialist Prime Vision has been working with TNT to extend postal retail outlets in the Netherlands through kiosks located in partner premises. The partnership has allowed TNT Post Retail to offer a range of web-based services through the kiosks, which are available for use by customers in high street stores.

Prime Vision provided the software and engineering for the kiosks, working with several other companies on the project.

Project Manager Pim Struik said: “To achieve the best outcome for TNT, we worked closely with several other companies and in particular with the designer of the GUI services, Acato and the Australian provider of the in-store terminals, Hytech.”

Through the kiosks, TNT customers can buy retail gift cards and pre-paid phone cards, and can also access services including licence applications and vehicle or boat registration, which currently make up around 75% of the transactions.

Another service soon to join the kiosk line-up will be electronic access to Dutch medical records, where patients will be able to register and verify their log-in, then use the system to view their medical records.

Prime Vision said the crucial benefit for the retail points was flexibility for customers and ease of use for staff.

Struik said: “A key requirement was to make the chosen service simple to execute, even by minimally trained Saturday staff.”

Prime Vision, which has its head office in Delft, southern Holland, has been majority-owned by TNT since 2003. The company said creating the web services for TNT Post Retail represented a new direction for its business.

Mark Ryder, the firm’s head of marketing, said: “Creating these web services is a new chapter in our history and heralds our capability to deliver many more value-added solutions for our clients.”
