Serbia: Postal service workers join Telekom Serbia strike
From BBC INTERNATIONAL REPORTS (EUROPE ECONOMIC), September 24th, 2001

Excerpt from report by Serbian news agency Beta Belgrade, 24 September: The Telekom Serbia workers who have been
on strike for seven days now have been joined today by PTT
Serbia [Serbian postal service] workers, Beta was told by Zoran
Mrvaljevic, chairman of Telekom Serbia’s trade union. He said that the strike had begun in all post offices, and added
that during the strike the minimum work process would be
observed. Mrvaljevic said that this morning “preliminary talks” with the
Serbian government’s representatives had been held, and
announced the continuation of the talks, which would be “very
difficult”… The trade union of Telekom Serbia demands that this company be
urgently exempted from the government’s decree on wage freezes
in state-run companies on the grounds that it cannot be applied
to Telekom Serbia because it is a joint stock company… Source: Beta news agency, Belgrade, in Serbo-Croat 0959 gmt 24
