American Airlines Cargo expands network into Finland

American Airlines Cargo has launched a new service direct from the US to Finland. From the start of this month, the non-stop service has seen a B767-300 departing from Chicago each day, with a morning arrival in Helsinki.

Operated exclusively by American Airlines, the flight will offer the carrier’s Expedite and ExpediteTC services.

AA Cargo is expecting particular interest in the route from the pharmaceutical and electronics industries.

The new Finnish operation builds on the carrier’s existing operations in Europe, which include hubs in Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.

New flights were added to Budapest and Dublin earlier this year.

“American Airlines Cargo is committed to growing our direct services to northern Europe, and this is just one more example of that effort,” said Tristan Koch, Managing Director of European Cargo Sales. “Chicago is a key gateway that provides our European customers with unparalleled access to global routes, and we are pleased to be building our network to meet their needs.”

AA Cargo has appointed Scandinavian firm North Air Logistics, part of the Paris-based Air Logistics Group, as its service agent for the region, with general manager Nette Rohde-Nielsen leading on the new Finnish route.

“We are confident that the new Helsinki services will be a great success and that we can continue to build the cargo business from the Nordic region,” said Henrik Spove, Regional Director Scandinavia and Finland for the Air Logistics Group.

“While managing the on-line cargo services from Finland, our teams will also provide coverage across Denmark, Norway and Sweden and feed the American Airlines services from other European hubs, in particular London Heathrow where there is an extensive schedule of services to destinations across the US,” Spove added.
