City Link enters GFS partnership

Struggling UK parcels business City Link has become the latest carrier to enter a working partnership with Global Freight Solutions (GFS). For GFS – the parcel and carrier management company – the move represents “another major step forward”, whilst City Link “seeks to further evolve the range of delivery options offered to its clients”.

Duncan Faithfull, sales & marketing director, City Link said:  “We are delighted to be working in partnership with GFS.  Not only do they share a similar ethos to ourselves in terms of delivering exceptional levels of customer service but their key target markets very much mirror ours.

“We very much look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with GFS over the coming months.”

Last week, Post&Parcel reported that City Link had suffered from continuing losses during Q1 2011. The business’ performance was £6.3m worse than that recorded for the first quarter of 2010. The company saw a reduction in revenue of £11.2m (13.4%).

Furthermore, Alan Brown, CEO of Rentokil Initial, the courier’s parent company, stated that City Link’s performance is unlikely to improve until Q3.

GFS said the new partnership is the latest in a series of developments planned by the company this year as it moves towards the completion of its first decade in business.

Managing director of GFS, Neil Cotty, said: “We are constantly looking for partners who can help us literally deliver on our promises to clients. City Link’s undoubted strength in providing quality delivery services makes it a natural ally for ourselves.

“The fact that City Link also has the sort of strong reputation for technology which has underpinned our growth is another reason why we believe they will help us round out our offer to our clients.”
