trans-o-flex building healthcare logistics centre near Frankfurt

Austrian Post’s international parcel and logistics company trans-o-flex has broken ground at the site of a new logistics centre in central Germany. The new facility in Alzenau, near Frankfurt, is being specially designed to meet the contract logistics requirements of pharmaceutical and healthcare customers.

It is to be used by the trans-o-flex Logistics Service unit, which offers logistics services ranging from storage and inventory management to picking and packing, shipment, returns and customs clearance.

With a direct connection to the A45 motorway, the new site is also only a 30-minute drive from Frankfurt Airport, allowing parcels and pallets to be delivered throughout Germany next-day.

trans-o-flex is working with real estate partner Pannattoni Europe on the project, which will include a 10,000 square metre high-bay warehouse on a 20,000 square metre site, with 13,500 storing positions and 11,000 lower-shelf spaces to facilitate picking and packing activities.

In a project that is creating 80 new jobs, trans-o-flex said the facility should begin operations in January 2013.

High-value solutions

The company is investing EUR 2m in getting the interior of the building ready for its new role, with new temperature control systems and monitoring technology to ensure shipments comply with temperature ranges requested by customers.

“Our new logistics centre in Alzenau will allow us to enhance our capacities again and, thanks to the excellent location, also use this as an ideal basis for the implementation of international logistics concepts,” said Oliver Rupps, the trans-o-flex chief executive.

“This construction project emphasises the focus of trans-o-flex Logistics Services and the entire trans-o-flex Logistics Group on offering the pharmaceutical industry holistic high-value logistic solutions.”

trans-o-flex Logistics Service currently operates logistics centres in Kerpen and Frechen, near Cologne, as well as in Weinheim, Heidelberg and Roth, near Nuremberg.
