ABX Logistics possibly for sale

Isabelle Durant. the Belgian minister of transport recently talked to the press about the future of ABX Logistics. a subsidiary of the Belgian state-run rail operation SNCB. According to a report in the Belgian economics weekly newspaper <L’Echu:. there is a possibility that the Belgian government might sell off the logistics company.
The Belgian transport minister said that the question of a possible spin-off of ABX Logistics should be discussed. She said that the government woffid have to calculate precisely “how much ABX really cost us>>.
The audits conducted so far at ABX Logistics failed
to produce the desired transparency, because the SNCB has not been sufficiently open about its plans for the future. Only after the present round of restructuring in the ABX Group has been completed, will the government be in a position to decide whether ABX Logistics will remain part of the SNCB.
The ABX Group has cost the Belgian government approximately EUR 613 million. Durant doubts if the activities of ABX Logistics complement those of the railfreight sector of’ SNCB and thus make economic sense.
