Thailand Post aims to be key Indochina logistics player

Thailand Post has unveiled ambitious plans to become a key logistics player in Indochina in the next few years, and make Thailand a “regional hub”. The company’s hopes are pinned on its new subsidiary, Thailand Post Distribution, which was established last year with registered capital of Bt350m. The subsidiary is aiming to generate revenue of Bt400m in 2015, and then grow at around 10% a year.

Warakan Srinualnad, the chief executive officer of Thailand Post Distribution, told local press that the company will be targeting the medical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as e-commerce and home shopping, banks and financial institutions, multinational companies and border traders.

“We’re in talks with Alibaba.com to provide logistics service to the e-commerce giant,” Srinualnad was quoted as saying by Bangkok Post.

Srinualnad also said that the new subsidiary can offer its customers value for money by tapping into the strength of Thailand Post’s infrastructure: “Given our strength of 5,000 post offices nationwide and major distribution centres in regional provinces, we can provide efficient transport and logistics structures.”
