On-demand delivery service launched in London

London-based startup Weengs has announced the launch of its on-demand delivery service in the UK capital. The service, which is based on the Shyp model already running in the US, aims to “bring digital convenience to the first mile of a package’s journey”.

Users take a picture of the unpacked item they would like to send via their app and press the ‘Pickup Now’ button. A Weengs Angel is dispatched to their home or office to collect the item within 15 minutes of the request.

Items are then taken to central hubs to be wrapped (at no extra cost), before being distributed by one of Weengs’ partner carriers, which include Royal Mail, ParcelForce, Hermes, UPS and DHL. For international deliveries, Weengs also offers to handle all documentation required for International Customs.

Weengs charges a flat fee of £5.00 per collection plus the cost of delivery.

Commenting on the launch, Greg Zontanos, Co-Founder at Weengs said: “With on-demand TV, 24 hour shopping and services like Uber on the market, consumers now regularly expect instant gratification. So we built Weengs with that in mind, creating a service that made it easy to ship anything, anywhere for the best price at the tap of a button.”

Weengs is currently operating in selected areas in East London and plans to “expand rapidly”. At the moment, the service is available from Monday to Saturday, from 8:30am to 4:30pm, but as the roll-out continues the company intends to increase this to a seven-day service, operating from 8:00am to 8:00pm.

There are three speed options for delivery: economy (default), and two express options guaranteed to arrive by the date in-app. If selected as an option, packages may also include tracking.

The company said that it has raised £100,000 in early investments from angel investors, with a round of seed funding expected shortly.
