Some Amazon Prime Now delivery drivers reclassified as employees

Drivers working for Scoobeez in California – and making Amazon Prime Now deliveries – have reportedly been reclassified as employees. The issue of whether “crowd-sourced” drivers should be classified as contractors or employees has been a controversial one in the US.

In October, four drivers who no longer for Scoobeez filed a lawsuit, contending that because they did not pick which packages to deliver and could not refuse to deliver packages, they were employees and not independent contractors.

Now, a report published on Buzzfeed today (1 March) has claimed that Scoobeez has since reclassified its drivers making Amazon Prime Now deliveries in California as employees.

The Buzzfeed article also claimed that Scoobeez reclassified the drivers as employees following a request from Amazon.

The attorney involved in the Scoobeez drivers’ lawsuit, Beth Ross, won a $228m settlement from FedEx in a misclassification case in June.
