Anti-Trust ministry OKs 12%-14% hike in state post rates

Russia’s Anti-Monopoly Policy Ministry announced Wednesday it has given the go-ahead to an average 12%-14% increase in rates for sending letters and small packages through the Federal Postal Service .

The new rates, which will take effect on December 1, are expected to just cover the service’s mail-handling costs.

Specifically, it will cost 2.75 rubles to mail a postcard within Russia compared with the current 2.45 rubles and 3.7 rubles to mail an ordinary letter versus the current 3.25 rubles. Sending a small package of up to two kilograms will cost 6.45 rubles, compared with 5.65 rubles now. (31.8226 rubles – U.S. $1)
