Sadiq Khan: “London’s entire transport system to be zero emission by 2050”
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has unveiled his plans to make London’s entire transport system “zero emission by 2050”. In plans published today, Khan said that this will be achieved through improvements and extensions to Tube, Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and Overground train networks, as well as new green buses and taxis, new river crossings, and the “transformation of London’s streets to make walking, cycling and public transport the most appealing and practical choices for Londoners right across the capital”.
As part of the 2050 roadmap, plans are in place to “reduce and then eliminate emissions from the transport fleet”.
This includes initiatives to encourage more delivery firms to use electric powered vehicles and also work together, so there are fewer vans operating in the inner city area.
The Mayor of London’s draft Transport Strategy is open to public consultation until 2 October 2017 and can be accessed by visiting www.tfl.gov.uk/mayors-transport-strategy
